Abstract

It is vital to characterize the microstructural features in nanostructured bainitic steels which is the critical factor influencing their extraordinary mechanical properties. This article aims to study the nanostructure bainite obtained in two high carbon steels with different amount of Mn, Ni and V. Results indicate that, it is possible to gain an extra ordinary nanoscale of 20 to 70 nm bainitic subunits which intimately interweaved with high carbon retained austenite of similar size. Moreover, the effects of the chemical composition and heat treatment temperature on the microstructural features have been illustrated.
