In the mobile ad hoc networks, MANETs, many studies are allocated to topology control algorithms; because of its importance in reducing energy consumption and interferences and maintaining the network connectivity. The main objective of topology control algorithms is to maintain the network connectivity while energy consumption is as low as possible. As the network size is not in our control, a scalable topology control algorithm is better. Among several approaches, the range assignment is an appropriate approach to add scalability to the algorithm. Due to lack of a comprehensive survey on range assignment topology control algorithms, in this paper, we review some recently presented well-known algorithms in this area. the reviewed algorithms are briefly described and compared with respect to several criteria such as complexity and degree of connectivity.
