Abstract
The determination of hydrazine and its derivatives has received much attention recently because of their involvement in areas such as chemical and pharmaceutical industries, fuel cells, explosives, propellants, rocket fuel, insecticides and oxygen scavengers for corrosion control in boilers and hot-water heating systems [1, 2]. Among several analytical methods such as ion chromatography, chemiluminescence, spectrophotometry, high performance liquid chromatography and electrochemical methods, electrochemical methods are low cost with rapid response and have some advantages like high sensitivity and selectivity for determination of various compounds like hydrazine [3]. In the present work homemade bulk modified screen printed electrode based on Pd|SiC nano particles was used as a high sensitive electrochemical sensor for hydrazine detection in real samples. Polyol-reduction method was used for the synthesis of Pd nano-particle on SiC substrate. The prepared nano catalysts were characterized by using SEM, TEM, BET and XRD techniques. Next the sol-gel method was used for screen printing of catalyst at the surface of glass electrode. After preparation of modified screen printed electrode the electrochemical properties of it was studied by CV technique. Finally the prepared sensor was used for detection of trace amounts of hydrazine in drinking water and rain water samples with a good recovery and precisions.
