Abstract

During 2013, fauna of edaphic oribatid mites were studied in Arasbaran forests, northeast of East
Azerbaijan province, north-western Iran. In this study, 45 species and two subspecies belong to 40
genera and 26 families were collected and identified. Among them, two genera including
Arthrodamaeus Grandjean, 1954 and Lauritzenia Hammer, 1958 and six species including
Metabelba (Neobelba) filippovae Bulanova-Zachvatkina, 1965, Ceratoppia bipilis Hermann, 1804,
Euzetes globulus Nicolet, 1855, Xenillus sculptrus Kulijev, 1963, Arthrodamaeus cf. striatus Aoki,
1984 and Lauritzenia (Incabates) tenuifusus Berlese, 1916 are reported for the first time from Iran
and 12 species namely Phthiracarus (Archiphthiracarus) furvus Niedbala, 1983, Camisia spinifer
(C.L. Koch, 1835), Heminothrus (Platynothrus) peltifer (Koch, 1839), Eupterotegaeus ornatissimus
(Berlese, 1908), Oppiella (Oppiella) nova mazandaranica Akrami & Subias, 2009, Lasiobelba
(Antennoppia) heterosa (Wallwork, 1964), Anomaloppia mazandaranica Akrami & Subias, 2007,
Eremaeus hepaticus cordiformis Grandjean, 1934, Belba dubinini Bulanova-Zachvatkina, 1962,
Eupelops cf. eximius Sitnikova, 1967, Liacarus (Liacarus) coracinus (C.L. Koch, 1841) and L.
(Dorycranosus) splendens (Coggi, 1898) were new for East Azerbaijan province.
