Abstract
Ionic liquid monomers, 1-(4-vinylbenzyl)-3-methyl imidazolium chloride, and 1-(4-vinylbenzyl)-4-(dimethylamino)-pyridinium chloride were synthesized through the quaternization of N-methylimidazole and 4-(dimethylamino) pyridine (DMAP) with 4-vinylbenzylchloride, respectively. The Ionic liquid monomers intercalated into montmorillonite and subsequently copolymerized with methacrylic acid (MAA). The hybrid materials were characterized by FTIR, XRD, and SEM to study their structure and the role that montmorillonite play. A model drug, naproxen was entrapped in these pH-sensitive positive charge nano carriers and the in vitro release profiles were established separately in both enzyme-free simulated gastric and intestinal fluids (SGF; pH 1) and (SIF; pH 7.4), respectively.
