Title
Electrophoretic Deposition of Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles from Different Alcoholic Suspensions: Effect of Triethanolamine
Type of Research Article
Keywords
electrophoretic deposition (EPD), alcohol, triethanolamine (TEA), hydroxyapatite nanoparticles
Abstract
The suspensions of HA nanoparticles were prepared in different alcohols using triethanolamine (TEA) as the dispersing additive. It was found that TEA acquires proton from alcohol molecules to generate H+TEA ions with high affinity to adsorption on the surface of HA particles. these ions are adsorbed on the surface of particles and enhances their surface charge and so zeta potential. It was found that the optimum concentration of TEA increases with molecular weight of alcohol. The kinetics of EPD was the fastest from suspensions with optimum concentration of TEA due to the highest zeta potential of particles in them. all coatings had the fine and high quality microstructure.
