Abstract

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (Mets) is the presence of several metabolic risk factors in accompany with
abdominal obesity which can lead to the remarkable health hazards. This disease naturally is interrelated with
several aspects of the daily life and its treatment demands a bio-psycho-social oriented manipulation.
However; most of the existing evidence concerned with the control of Mets are outcomes from quantitative
researches, especially in the case of exercise training. Moreover, a great part of the available information are
come from different population not having Mets, with considerable cultural and racial diversity which did not
provide a deep understanding about the patients and their around people's perceptions, experiences, attitudes
and expectations. Therefore, identification of the essential causes influencing to not adherence or withdrawal
from exercise training and/or dietary control with a qualitative approach could certainly be a valuable step to
improve Mets control and other complications from its accompanying diseases.
Methodology: This study was conducted according to the grounded theory method with goal oriented and also
snowball sampling between males and female patients with Mets and their around people (physicians, family
members, friends and coworkers) using holistic method. After subject selection based on the study aim and
also considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, achievement of a verbal consent and selection of the
interview location, a face to face interview with open ended questions was recorded by an audio recorder. The
nonverbal cues were also recorded by the interviewer.
Results: Finally, 74 codes were allocated after analyze in five main concept categories; including on
supportive structure, coping tools, interactions, patients characteristics and psycho-spiritual load which should
be considered in exercise therapy service programming as an appropriate way out to stimulate future behavior
