In the present work, a carbon –ceramic electrode (CCE) modified by a composite of
an io nic liquid and single-w alled carbon nanotubes (IL-SWC NT/CCE) wa s pre-
pared for the electrochemica l determination of epineph rine (EP) in the presenc e of
uric acid (UA). The morpholog y and surface character istics of the prepare d modi-
fied CCE were studied using scannin g electron microscopy (SEM). Cyclic voltam-
metry (CV) and differential pulse voltammet ry (DPV) were used for
electrochemical studies and determinations. Their result s showed that the IL-
SWCNT/CCE has high electrocataly tic activity toward the oxidation of EP. The
electrochemical behavio r of EP is cl osely dependent on th e pH; in basic media, its
oxidation process is irreversi ble and there is no cathodic peak in reverse scan, while
in acidic media the electrochemica l behav ior of EP becomes reversible. DPV mea-
surements showed that the oxidation peak current was linear in the concentration
range 1.0 × 10
− 7
to 2.0 × 10
− 4
M, and the detection limit was 2.8 × 10
−8
M.
Also, it wa s confirmed that the IL-S WCNT/CCE can be used for the simultan eous
measurement of EP and UA. The obtained results indicate that the IL-SWCNT/
CCE has hi gh stability, reprodu cibility, and repeatability. Finally, the develop ed
electro-analytical method was successfully applied for the determinati on of EP in
human serum and urine samples without any interference.
