Abstract
Physics is one of the basic university fields widespread all over the world and is a branch of science a great number of university students are engaged with. It is also one of the pre-requisite courses for the students of other disciplines such as civil engineering, electronics, mechanics and various other engineering fields in the universities of Iran. It is more or less evident in most of the universities of Iran that students of other disciplines do not acquire the expected proficiency after taking two courses of EGAP (English for General Academic Purposes) and ESAP (English for Specific Academic Purposes) in their curriculum. The research starts with an overall Environment Analysis of ESAP for physics students in the context of Iran. The investigation will take place in two universities of Iran namely: Azarbaijan Shahid Madani, and Tabriz Payam Noor Universities. Then there will be a Needs Analysis which consists of Target Situation Analysis (TSA), Present Situation Analysis (PSA), and Learning Situation Analysis (LSA). The TSA will be performed on physics students in the realms of both their future academic and occupational needs mostly through research on the type of careers they are going to take in future as well as interviews with the students and their ESP instructors who are the subject field specialists. The PSA, on the other hand, is going to be administered mostly via questionnaires. There will also be observations and interviews with the students and their ESP instructors in this respect that is conducive to identifying about the students’ areas of strengths and weaknesses; and finally, the LSA will determine the areas of preference and special wants of the learners out of the questionnaire survey which includes interviews and actual observation, too.
