Abstract
Road safety index is a very important issue that has recently been presented as a useful tool for ‎comparing the performance of countries, cities, and roads in terms of‏ ‏road safety system. Road safety performance assessment is a very important problem, and in this respect significant research has been studied, which has weaknesses and strengths. However, in the real road safety applications, more managers evaluate the roads using traditional methods. In this paper, a new method is proposed to evaluate each road in terms of road safety index. Using data envelopment analysis approach, the proposed method is presented. Moreover, the new method is applied for a case study in roads of East Azerbaijan Province in Iran and the obtained results are analyzed. Besides, the inefficient roads are recognized based on the proposed method and improvement strategy is suggested for each of roads.
