Within the framework of open quantum systems, we analytically study the dynamics of a V-type
three-level atom interacting with a dissipative reservoir in the presence of N−1 auxiliary and
similar atoms. We demonstrate how the initial coherence of the V-type three-level atom can be
protected by inserting more auxiliary atoms into the reservoir and manipulating the
spontaneously generated interference between two possible transitions of the atoms.
Furthermore, we show that as the number of auxiliary atoms becomes sufficiently large, the
initial coherence of the considered V-type three-level atom is preserved to a great extent in the
dissipative reservoir.
