Abstract
Here, we present a simple and sensitive vitamin C (VC) sensor that was developed based on the chicken feet yellow membrane (CFYM) as a new electrode modification material for the first time. It was demonstrated that the over-oxidized carbon paste electrode (OCPE) modified with chicken feet yellow membrane denoted as CFYM/OCPE exhibited a high catalytic capacity for electro-oxidation of vitamin C. The electrochemical behavior of VC on the surface of the prepared sensor was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution at pH 6. Characterization of the modified film was performed by electrode scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Under optimal experimental conditions, the proposed sensor exhibited low detection limit of 5.95 μM with a wide linear range 9.9 –280.5 μM, excellent sensitivity (2.1969 μA/µmol dm–3) and good storage and operational stability. The advantages of the CFYM/OCPE are its good stability and repeatability of surface renewal through simple polishing, low cost, excellent catalytic activity, and simplicity of preparation. The manufactured electrode has been successfully used for the selective determination of the VC amount content in pharmaceuticals, fruit juice and human serum samples with good precision and accuracy.
