Abstract
Abstract Mark Twain’s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is conspicuous in using non-standard language. Translating non-standard language, especially in literary works, is quite challenging for translators; notably, when the author used it wittingly to establish a character, regional atmosphere, and social differences. This study sets out to determine different strategies used by translators in rendering the dialectical varieties of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and it also aims to investigate the possible manipulation in rendering the non-standard structures from 1949 to 2021. The method of this study is descriptive and the theoretical framework is based on Halliday’s register theory. Nine Persian translations are selected in this study, and the translations will be compared with Twain’s novel based on Halliday’s register theory in order to know to what extent the translators manipulate the text.
