Abstract
This thesis aims at studying an English poet, namely, Percy Bysshe Shelley, with an Iraqi poet named Nazok al-Malaekeh through the theories of Henry Remak in Comparative Literature to find out how the Iraqi poet has been influenced by the English poet. Likewise, the aim of this thesis is to introduce Nazok al-Malaekeh to a wider audience through its comparison with Shelley. In the light of comparison with greater poets, lesser-known poets like Nazok al-Malekeh will be recognized, read, and appreciated. The aim of this thesis is also to read the following selected poems by Nazok al-Malaekeh e.g. “New Year. New Year, Don’t Come to Our Homes, for We are Wanderers, From a Ghost-world, Denied by man,” “Revolt Against The Sun. She Stood Before the Sun, Screaming,” “Who Am I? The Night Asks Who am I,” “Love Song for Words. Why do We Fear Words,” “Strangers,” “Blow out the Candle and Leave Us Strangers Here.” The researcher will set the Iraqi selected poets against the following poems by Shelley entitled “Ode to the West Wind,” “Men of England,” “The Mask of Anarchy,” “To the Moon,” “Prometheus Unbound,” and “Ozymandias”.
