Abstract

since improvement of students' writing performance is really demanding, and since writing and thinking are interconnected, hence, exploring the association between higher-order thinking skills and students' writing performance in EFL context is the major objective of this study. This line of research serves as an awareness raising agent to inform teachers to educate students on how to think effectively, and guide them in cultivating their thinking skills in generating ideas which has been considered essential for L2 writing. In addition, the pedogogical implications derived from the findings of this research could provide insight for educational boards and government bodies to recognize the need for strategic planning and training on the development and use of higher-order cognitive skills that could assist students in gaining fluency in L2 learning.
