Abstract
The translator’s task is to respect the author’s original text and message while making it understandable for the target audience. This can be difficult as different cultures between the source and target languages can cause confusion or errors in translation. Berman (2000) argued that translators should aim for a “foreignizing” translation that highlights the cultural difference of the original text and maintains its distinctive features (Berman, 2000). Translation ethics involves ensuring the language is accurate, clear, and respectful when translating from one language to another. The translator must follow the ethical norms of the profession and also consider cultural variations and issues. Moreover, the translator must be mindful of any possible legal consequences that may arise from the translation, and must be careful to preserve the original meaning of the text. The present study uses Berman’s “negative analytic” theory of translation to identify and categorize the selected deforming tendencies that are found in the English-Persian translation of the book “Prophet” by Najaf Daryabandari, based on their frequencies.
