What makes a work last is how to express and use language; That is, how the author has used language, expression, word and aesthetic functions; In other words, that is, the critics consider the literary work to be a process whose most important feature is its distinct structural, phonetic, syntactic, semantic and, in general, all its literary functions. Defamiliarization and norm avoidance are among the main topics of formalist criticism and new approaches in literary criticism, which have attracted many fans in recent years. Metaphysical poets were poets belonging to the 17th century, whose works were forgotten for many years, but in 1921, TS Eliot published an article entitled "Metaphysical Poets" and caused metaphysical poets and their poetry to be in the circles after about three centuries. be considered literary. In this article, Eliot criticized the style of these poets and emphasized the importance of this school. In this article, he proposed the theory of dissociation of consciousness. According to this theory, with poets like Dan and his followers, the whole consciousness, that is, feeling and thought, was continuous and integrated, so that the thought was expressed in an explicit and sensual way. Metaphysical poets internalize perception and return thought to feeling.
In another part of the book, Bradbrook mentions Eliot's interest in the play and considers it more than a simple taste test. Quoting English poet and playwright Ben Johnson, he states that Eliot's grief is the defense of artificial expression and style in the play. The characters are not seen based on their individual roles and are not reminiscent of real-life figures; Rather, they are seen in their combination in a whole, these faces are parts of a whole. Therefore, it is very important to study the type of poetry and the technique used in composing poetry.
