Abstract
Titles serve as the first point of interaction between a reader and a piece of news and shape their initial understanding and expectations of the subject matter. Sometimes the readers only read the news titles and let go of the rest of the content. As a result, news titles have a considerable impact on how people and societies at large perceive international events and conflicts and the way they react to them. These sentiments and reactions can shape further realities and happenings of the world hence the importance of the study of how news items are translated from one language to another. This type of research is particularly pertinent in contexts where the source and target text governments and communities have radically opposing views about a specific conflict. The way news items concerning the Israel-Palestine conflict published in American news media outlets are rendered in Iran is one of those cases that is well worth researching. The results of such a study can highlight how texts are (re)framed by translators or other actors involved in the process of translation to reach certain political goals. It can once again prove that unbiased translation is an illusion, specifically in the field of news translation. This study will provide valuable insights for translation students, potentially helping them understand how small changes they make in the process of translation can have consequences in the real world. It will also make them maintain an awareness while reading translated texts and help them to be critical towards them. Very few studies in Iran have applied narrative theory to study of news texts. This research hopes to enrich that literature by examining a relatively large corpus and pave the way for more research in this field.
