Abstract

The importance of this research lies in its potential to significantly improve the safety and reliability of offshore structures. Offshore platforms, by their nature, operate in challenging environments where structural failures can have serious consequences, not just in terms of financial loss but also in terms of human safety and environmental impact. Understanding the relationship between crack size and structural performance is critical for early detection and prevention of catastrophic failure. This research will offer essential data to guide structural engineers in making informed decisions about maintenance schedules, crack detection, and reinforcement techniques. The results can also inform the design of more resilient offshore structures that are better equipped to withstand the detrimental effects of crack propagation over time. Moreover, the use of advanced computational methods like MATLAB-based FEM modeling will allow for more accurate simulations and predictions, providing a higher level of confidence in design and maintenance planning.
