Abstract
This research explores the symbolic significance of history, geography, and psychology in William Golding's 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 through the lens of allegorical interpretation. The study examines how these concepts shape the narrative's deeper meanings, revealing Golding's critique of human nature and societal structures. History is analyzed as a symbolic representation of humanity's recurring cycles of violence and civilization's fragility. Geography, specifically the island setting, is interpreted as a microcosm of the world, isolating the boys to explore primal instincts and social breakdown. Psychology plays a crucial role in uncovering the internal conflicts and the inherent darkness within human nature, illustrated through the characters' descent into savagery. The research highlights how Golding integrates these elements to create a multilayered allegory, reflecting on human behavior and societal collapse. By employing the allegorical interpretation method, this study illuminates the universal relevance of the novel, demonstrating its enduring critique of human tendencies and the moral dilemmas inherent in civilization. This investigation emphasizes the interplay between external environments and internal human struggles, offering a comprehensive understanding of Golding's masterpiece.
