Abstract

Aim of study: Evaluation of osteocalcin, vit D, bone specific alkaline phosphatase, type 1 collagen, Ca, Mg, P, GH, IGF-1 and PTH in patients with beta-thalassemia major in Kirkuk city to determine the level of undiagnosed osteoporosis in these patients in both sexes (males and females) children and correlate the osteocalcin and vit D with each parameter.
In essence, studies on osteoporosis in the background of thalassemia and those vitamins, minerals, and proteins involved in the bone health and turnover process are of paramount importance for a better understanding of the disease process and formulating therapeutic and preventive strategies with maximum efficacy.
