Abstract

Accessibility is probably one the most important cornerstones of audio description. Blind and visually impaired individuals and their accessibility to audiovisual content including movies, art, museums, etc. have to be taken into consideration as for any individual in the society. In order to help these people, we can take a behavioristic approach in conducting audio descriptions which lets them to have the same experience of audiovisual content as others do. To reach this end, an increasing number of organisations and guidelines have been developing worldwide to produce audio descriptions of high quality.
This research centers on the analysis of film audio description practices within Iran's Namayesh Channel. Specifically, it investigates the extent to which generated audio descriptions for films broadcast on this channel adhere to the guidelines established by the ADLAB Model. The findings of this research are expected to hold significant value for several key stakeholders. Scholars engaged in the study of audio description will benefit from access to a valuable repository of case studies examining existing AD practices within the context of Iranian national broadcasting. Moreover, audio describers themselves can leverage this research to gain insights into previously generated ADs, facilitating a critical evaluation of their quality and informing the creation of more effective and inclusive audio descriptions in future endeavors. Recognizing the limited number of official standards and guidelines for audio description in Iran, this research aims to underscore the critical importance of this field.
