Abstract
The study of plasma techniques for modifying the surface roughness and optical properties of opal is of great importance due to their potential applications in various fields such as photonics, optoelectronics, and sensing technologies. By precisely controlling the surface features and optical characteristics of opal photonic crystals, these materials can be optimized for enhanced performance in light manipulation, filtering, and sensors. For instance, improving the surface roughness and optical properties can lead to better efficiency in devices like sensors for detecting gases or pollutants. This research is significant as it promises to unlock new capabilities for fabricating high-performance photonic devices with improved functionality and cost-effectiveness, driving advancements in both industrial and scientific applications. In this thesis, we will explore the fabrication and optimization of opal photonic crystals using plasma techniques. Here, the impact of suspension properties and parameters of cold plasma treatment on the changes of surfaces of monodisperse polymeric microparticles is tested. These methods aim to enhance surface roughness and optical properties, offering a cost-effective approach with significant potential for industrial applications. The high sensitivity and improved performance of these modified photonic crystals make them promising candidates for various technological advancements in the field of photonics .
