Abstract
The increasing demand for medicinal plants and identifying areas susceptible to their growth with an efficient method and minimal field costs are the issues being emphasized in the agricultural sector. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of climatic layers on the localization of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L) cultivation in East Azerbaijan Province using spatial analysis (kriging). The data layers in Arc GIS software include average temperature, relative humidity, and precipitation from 17 synoptic stations over a period of time (1394-1402). After preparing temperature, relative humidity, and precipitation maps using kriging, three combinations were used to overlay the produced maps (overlay 1: 70% temperate, 20% relative humidity, 10% precipitation- overlay 2: 20% temperate, 70% relative humidity, 10% precipitation- overlay 3: 20% temperate, 10% relative humidity, 70% precipitation). The produced maps by kriging, were reclassified based on the suitable state of climatic conditions for rosemary growth. In the first overlaying, Osku, Azarshahr, Ajab Shir, Bonab, parts of Malekan, Maragheh, Jolfa, Marand, Shabestar, Tabriz and Miyaneh were in an optimal state of cultivation. The second case was similar to the first case, except that the areas related to Tabriz, Marand, and Miyaneh were added, and parts of Ahar, which was not previously in susceptible areas, were added. The third overlaying, was completely different from the previous overlaying, and suitable areas included parts of Horand, Kalibar, and Khodaafrin. The climatic conditions of each region have a significant impact on the germination mechanism and growth of rosemary, and determining potential areas with spatial analysis can be of great help in this regard.
