چکیده
The global burden of UTIs is clearly rising, posing a significant challenge to healthcare systems worldwide. This increasing rate can be linked to various factors. These include demographic changes, such as an aging population with weakened immune systems, changing clinical practices, and possibly environmental influences. The widespread and often careless use of antibiotics has also unintentionally contributed to this rise. It disrupts the protective bacteria in our bodies, allowing harmful bacteria to thrive. The large number of people suffering from UTIs puts tremendous pressure on healthcare resources. This leads to higher medical costs, a reduced quality of life for patients, and in severe cases, the development of systemic infections like pyelonephritis and sepsis when the infections reach the kidneys [7]. At the same time, the ongoing increase in antibiotic resistance among uropathogens represents a serious and growing crisis. It complicates the treatment of these common infections significantly. The bacteria largely responsible for UTIs, such as E. coli and other Gram-negative bacilli, are showing increasing resistance to many antimicrobial agents. This troubling trend is mainly driven by the widespread and often incorrect use of antibiotics in both human healthcare and agriculture. This misuse promotes the growth and spread of resistant bacterial strains. The rising number of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) uropathogens limits treatment options for doctors, making infections harder to treat, prolonging recovery times, and significantly increasing care costs.
