In this research, magnetic nickel ferrite nanoparticles were modified with β-cyclodextrin using a straightforward one-step
process, which offers an advantage by eliminating the need for cross-linkers. After characterization of the morphology and
structural features of the synthesized nickel ferrite@β-cyclodextrin nanocomposite using numerous spectroscopic techniques,
it was then employed as a novel adsorbent for dispersive magnetic solid-phase extraction and pre-concentration
of cadmium(II) ions followed by flame atomic absorption spectrometric detection. Some significant parameters affecting
the extraction recovery were studied and optimized. Under optimal conditions (pH; 7, adsorbent dosage; 250 mg, sample
volume; 250 mL, desorption time; 10 min, eluent; 0.9 mol/L H3PO4, eluent volume; 2 mL, adsorption time; 20 min), the
linear dynamic range extends from 0.16‒20 μg/L, and the detection limit of the presented method is 0.02 μg/L. The preconcentration factor is 125, and the intra-day and inter-day precision are 1.15% and 1.69%, respectively. The adsorbent's reusability for up to 140 cycles and the relative recovery rates, ranging from 94.06%‒105.60%, demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented method in extracting trace amounts of cadmium(II) from water, black tea, and rice samples.
