چکیده
The aim and significance of examining “The Power of Discipline and Control: A Foucauldian Reading of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World” lie not only in a deeper understanding of the novel itself but also in its broader implications for contemporary society. Huxley’s work, originally published in 1932, offers a prescient analysis of the potential dangers posed by unchecked technological advancement, consumerism, and social conformity. First and foremost, Huxley’s portrayal of a society governed by the principles of control and discipline raises critical questions about the nature of freedom. In Brave New World, personal autonomy is sacrificed at the altar of societal stability, a trade-off that resonates with current debates surrounding privacy, surveillance, and governance. Furthermore, the application of Michel Foucault’s theories of power and discipline provides a robust theoretical framework for understanding how control operates in Huxley’s narrative and, by extension, in contemporary society. Moreover, the analysis of Huxley’s work through a Foucauldian lens encourages critical engagement with the ethical dimensions of power. In a world increasingly defined by technological mediation, questions about the moral responsibilities of individuals and institutions become paramount. In addition to its theoretical contributions, this research addresses the historical context in which Huxley wrote Brave New World. Exploring the societal anxieties of the early 20th century— marked by rapid industrialization, emerging technologies, and totalitarian regimes—enriches our understanding of Huxley’s critiques. Finally, this study contributes to the broader discourse surrounding dystopian literature and its capability to reflect and critique societal values. By positioning Brave New World within the framework of Foucauldian theory, the research not only unpacks the text’s commentary on control but also illuminates its place within the rich tradition of literature that challenges
