Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease, often associated with systemic inflammation. Markers such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are known to be elevated in psoriasis patients compared to healthy controls .The IL-6 gene has a well-studied promoter polymorphism, rs1800795 (-174 G>C). This SNP has been associated in other disease settings with IL-6 levels, CRP levels, and inflammatory response (for example, in end-stage renal disease, cardiovascular disease) but results are inconsistent .There is at least one study that looked at IL-6 rs1800795 in psoriasis, suggesting that certain genotypes may be protective or associated with risk (e.g. “Genetic variations in IL6 decreasing the risk for psoriasis” study), but those studies are small and often do not examine how rs1800795 genotype correlates with multiple biochemical and inflammatory markers in psoriasis patients (severity, CBC, lipid profile, etc.).
