Abstract

Eco-criticism is almost a new field of study and this thesis is significant from the aspect that it can expand this literary field. Likewise, the significant of this study lies in this fact that it shows how modern literary productions illustrate the relationship between humans and nature. Ecocriticism is a field of cultural studies, as a result, the importance of the present study lies in its effort for analyzing the cultural narrative about the environment and issues related to nature. Said differently, this study can be useful for understanding the way that literature shapes the consciousness of people about nature. Another important significance of this study is the comparative nature of it. Other theoretical works might focus on one text. on the contrary, this thesis will evaluate three texts in order to have a better understanding of the relationship between human and nature that these novels represent. The title of this thesis is listening to the nature and it is important because this thesis is going to present nature as an alive and active entity in human life. In other words, nature is not a passive background in individual’s life. Instead, this thesis paves the way for this understanding that nature is an active force in everyone’s life and it shapes our consciousness and our understanding of ourselves. Additionally, this thesis will remind the fact that literature can still be a powerful tool for developing cultural ideas and raise awareness about human issues despite the presence of social medial and other forms of broadcasting. In conclusion, it can be said that this interdisciplinary research is necessary to understand the attitude the modern literature toward the relationship between human and nature.
