Palladiumnanoparticles/nanostructuredcarbonblackcomposite(PdNPs/NCB),supportedonthecarbon–ceramicelectrode(CCE),hasbeenpreparedbyachemicalreductionmethodusingsodiumborohydrideasareducingagent.Thesynthesizedcompositewascharacterizedbyscanningelectronmicroscopy,highreso-lutiontransmissionelectronmicroscopy,energy-dispersiveX-rayspectroscopy,X-raydiffractionandelec-trochemicalmethodstodelineateitssurfacemorphology,nanostructureproperties,composition,crystalphasesandelectrochemicalproperties.Theobtainedmodifiedelectrode,PdNPs/NCB/CCE,wasusedasanefficientelectrocatalystfortheoxidationofformicacid.Electrochemicaltechniquesincludingcyclicvoltam-metryandchronoamperometrywereappliedforelectrocatalyticinvestigationsanditwasfoundthatthePdNPs/NCB/CCEwascatalyticallymoreactivethanthePdnanoparticlessupportedontheCCEwithoutNCB(PdNPs/CCE).Theeffectofsomeexperimentalfactorswasstudiedandoptimumconditionsweresuggested.TheobtainedresultsshowthatthePdNPs/NCB/CCEhassatisfactorystabilityandreproducibilityforelec-trooxidationofformicacidwhenstoredinambientconditionsandimprovedelectrocatalyticactivityincon-tinuedcyclingwhichmakeitmoreattractiveforformicacidfuelcellapplications.
