Synthesis of amino functionalized magnetic nano-particles and its application for magnetic removal of benzoic-acid from aqueous solution: Kinetics, equilibrium and thermodynamic studies

چکیده
In this research, Fe3O4 magnetic nano-particles were synthesized and then functionalized with amino group (alanine) by a simple and cost-effective approach to prepare a novel adsorbent for the removal of benzoic acid (BA) . 1-3 The adsorbent was characterized using powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The studies were carried out under various experimental conditions such as pH, contact time, BA initial concentration and temperature to assess the potentiality of the adsorbent regarding the removal of BA from water samples. It was observed that the adsorption of 30 mg L–1 BA is favored at pH around 6 with equilibrium time of 30 min. To determine the adsorption capacity, the equilibrium data were analyzed using linear form of Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm equations. Langmuir equation showed higher conformity than the other equations with a maximum adsorption capacity of 119.95 mg g–1. Kinetic adsorption data were analyzed using the Lagergren pseudo-first-order kinetic model and the pseudo-second-order model. The regression results showed that the adsorption kinetics was more accurately represented by pseudo-second-order model. The calculation of the thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy, entropy and enthalpy indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and exothermic in nature.
