In recent years, biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles, especially silver nanoparticles, due to
especially properties such as thermal conductivity, chemical stability, catalytic and different
biological activity, becomes an important subject of researches in the field of bionanotechnology
synthesis of silver nanoparticles using the extract of plant is an ecologically
friendly, cost effective method without use of toxic chemicals[1].
L. oficinale is used in traditional medicine for the treatment of fever, gouty diseases and
intestinal pains. The phenolic compounds were supposed to be the active principle in this
respect. Besides these, lithospermic acid, allantoine and shikonine seem to be effective[2].
The synthesis of silver nanoparticles was done using the aqueous extract of L. officinal.
The results showed that one ml of the extract can reduces 9 ml of silver ions (1 mM) into
silver nanoparticles within 12 hours after heating the reaction mixture (60 ºC) at pH 9.
