Azo-azomethine compounds are usually prepared by the reaction between primary amine and aromatic aldehydes. These compounds show several biological activities . In recent years, designing colorimetric probes such as azo –azomethine compounds for detection of metal ions has attracted significant research interest.Because these ligands can change the color of the solution or maxima of the absorption band when bind to the metal ions.
In this paper, we study of optical response of one azo-azo methane derivative in the presence some metal ions such as Ni2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, Hg2+ and Co2+ metal ions. The results show some shifts and changes in the intensity of the π π and n π transitions of azo and imine groups.
