Todeterminethequantitativeandqualitativecharacteristicsoffivedragonheadpopulationsatfivehabitats(Salmas,Uremia,Khoy,MaraghehandTabriz),anexperimentwasconductedascompletelyrandomizeddesignwiththreereplicationsin2013.Theresultsshowedthatthetallestplantheight(92cm)andthehighestcontentsofnitrogen(2.3%),phosphorus(0.22%),chlorophyll(1.9mgg−1FW),carotenoids(0.68mgg−1FW)andesentialoil(0.61%)wereobtainedfromSalmaspopulation.Numberofsecondarybranchesvariedfrom5.7to22.7,whilenumberoffloweringbranchesrangedfrom4.6to14.0.Themajorcomponentsoftheessentialoilweregeraniol,geranial,nerolandgeranylacetate.Thehighestandthelowestvaluesofneral+geraniol+geranialwereobservedinTabrizandMaraghehpopulations,respectively.Thelevelsofneral,geranialandgeraniolweregreaterforSalmaspopulationfollowedbyTabrizpopulation.Thepresentstudyincreasedknowledgeaboutthemorphologicalandphytochemicalpropertiesofdragonheadpopulationsandcanbeusefulfordomestication,breeding,industrialandmedicinaluses
