With the complication of corrosion ambiance, interacting the metallic materials with corrosive pollutants has led to lose their essential properties over the time. Hence organic coatings, especially epoxy based coatings, owing to their outstanding mechanical properties, good chemical resistance, and superior adhesion to substances, have been grabbed a great attraction in corrosion protection. In addition, the incorporation of some additives such as conducting polymers and carbon based materials improved significantly the corrosion resistance of epoxy matrix. Herein, a hybrid composite based on polyaniline-reduced graphene oxide (PANI-rGO) was synthesized and incorporated into epoxy matrix with different amounts. Prepared composite was characterized using FTIR, FESEM, and TGA. The corrosion protection performance of various formulation of epoxy composite on steel substrate, were evaluated by open-circuit potential and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Incorporating 1 to 1.5 phr of PANI-rGO into epoxy matrix, resulted in barrier properties and improvement of the epoxy coating corrosion resistance.
