To address the concerns of consumers for food safety and freshness, researchers have expanded the functions of biopolymer-based food packaging materials by fabricating active food packaging films. Recently, nanostructures and natural componds have received growing attentions in food packaging. In this work, novel active food packaging based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/starch (St) with nanostructures such as zinc oxide, montmorillonite, titanium dioxide and green tea extract were developed via solvent casting method. The structural characteristics of films using FTIR confirmed successfully formation of films in the presence of NPs. The addition of nanoparticles enhanced the swelling and hydrophilicity of the films. Functional properties of the active films such as antioxidant activity, antimicrobial peroperties, Water vapor barrier performance and degradation will be investigated.
