In this work, the colloidal lithography technique was applied to fabricate a uniform arrangement of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). First, a monolayer of Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microspheres, as a template, was deposited on the substrate using the gas-liquid interface deposition technique. Then, different thicknesses of gold thin film were deposited on the Fluorine-doped Tin Oxide (FTO) coated glass slide by magnetron sputtering method. After removing the polymeric template by calcination and chemical etching methods, the remained thin film transforms to AuNPs by annealing in a furnace at 500◦C. In the next step, utilizing Dr. Blade's technique, a layer of TiO2 was deposited on the AuNPs. Next, the ternary CdS1-xSex quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized using successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) and hydrothermal anion exchange reaction (HAER) methods. Finally, solar cells with the structure of FTO-AuNPs /TiO2/CdS1-xSex were designed [1,2].
It has been concluded that gold thin films with a thickness of 20 nm showed the highest efficiency. Photovoltaic (PV) parameters in FTO-AuNPs(20nm)/TiO2/CdS1-xSex were strengthened by increasing light absorption, electron extraction, and decreasing recombination rate (Jsc = 19.95 mA cm−2, Voc = 0.544V, FF = 0.54).
