Migration and displacement are predominant themes in contemporary English literature, through which one can explore the process of identity formation in an increasingly globalized world by its authors. In novels such as Zadie Smith's White Teeth, Monica Ali's Brick Lane, and Andrea Levy's Small Island, these themes become not only narrative conventions to further the plot, but complexly interwoven with questions of identity, belonging, and cultural hybridity. The novels' protagonists undergo disorientation due to migration and constantly negotiate through diverse cultural, social, and historical contexts, aiming at reconciling personal and communal identities
