The necessity and significance of the research subject lie in the critical role that power electronic devices, such as inverters, play in industrial motor drive applications. These devices are subjected to various stresses, including abnormal operating conditions, harsh environments, and heavy loads, which can lead to faults, particularly OC and SC failures. While SC faults are easier to detect due to their higher destructiveness, OC faults can result in performance degradation and secondary failures if not promptly identified. Thus, developing reliable, fast, and efficient FDD methods is essential to ensure the safe operation, minimize downtime, and enhance the overall reliability and performance of these systems. Approaches such as logic-based methods, residual-based methods, and controller-aided methods provide promising solutions to detect and locate faults, which are crucial for preventing potential economic losses and system shutdowns in industrial applications.
