Escherichia coli is Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-spore-forming bacteria from the Enterobacteriaceae family. The rod-shaped cocci are approximately 0.4 μm in diameter and 2–3 μm long. They are generally motile due to their peritricin flagella. They grow over a wide range of temperatures (15–45 °C) and can survive in the environment for long periods 1- Sampling
Bacterial samples were collected from hospital patients
2- Culture media used
The culture media used in this study include blood agar, EMB, Mueller Hinton, and broth for cultivation and isolation, and the necessary media for biochemical tests include TSI, indole, methyl red, lysine decarboxylase, sorbitol, Simon citrate, oxidase, and ONPG.
3- Stages of cultivation and biochemical tests
The samples will first be cultivated in an EMB medium. After cultivation, 24-48 hours of incubation at 37°C will be required for colony growth. Colonies that develop a metallic sheen in this medium will be used for biochemical confirmation tests including TSI, indole, methyl red, lysine decarboxylase, sorbitol, and ONPG.
