This chapter provides an overview of membrane-based extraction techniques, which have been used for monitoring of target
analytes in food and beverage samples. These techniques offer a stable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternative to
traditional liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) methods. They allow trace determination of analytes in complex matrices with
high extraction recovery and selectivity. These techniques include porous membrane techniques (dialysis, microdialysis,
electrodialysis, and filtration) and nonporous membrane techniques (hollow-fiber liquid phase microextraction, electromembrane
extraction, bulk liquid membrane, free liquid membrane, polymer inclusion membranes, and gel membrane).
Moreover, some configurations that have been successfully used for the determination of different analytes in food matrices
along with some critical points regarding each technique are highlighted.
