Centrifugal pumps are among the most widely utilized turbomachines in industrial and engineering applications, including water supply systems, chemical processing, oil and gas industries, and power generation. Their widespread use stems from their mechanical simplicity, low maintenance requirements, and adaptability to a variety of operating conditions. However, when handling viscous fluids—such as oils, polymer solutions, or slurries—the hydraulic performance of centrifugal pumps deteriorates significantly. Viscosity alters the internal flow characteristics by increasing frictional losses, changing the velocity profiles, and modifying the pressure distribution within the pump passages. These effects ultimately reduce the overall efficiency and reliability of the system.
