This study presents a new method of increasing the strength of adhesively bonded joints at different extension
rates by applying a small fraction of Reduced Graphene Oxide (RGO) which has been produced using fast and
fully scalable method. Tensile and compression tests were carried out on bulk specimens at different extension
rates. This was found that including 0.5 wt.% RGO to the epoxy based adhesive increases the ultimate tensile
and compressive strength of the bulk specimens by 30% and 26% at the strain rate of 5e-4. Also, the joints with
graphene additives exhibit 27%, 20%, and 19% higher ultimate strength than the joints which were bonded
with neat adhesive at the strain rates of 5e-4, 0.02 and 0.05, respectively. Comparing the numerical and experimental
results shows that Exponent Drucker–Prager model can successfully simulate the plastic behavior of the
joints at different extension rates.
