The shielding potential around a test charge is calculated, using the linearized quantum hydrodynamic
formulation with the statistical pressure and Bohm potential derived from finite temperature kinetic
theory, and the temperature effects on the force between ions is assessed. The derived screening potential
covers the full range of electron degeneracy in the equation of state of the plasma electrons. An attractive
force between shielded ions in an arbitrary degenerate plasma exists below a critical temperature and
density. The effect of the temperature on the screening potential profile qualitatively describes the ion–
ion bound interaction strength and length variations. This may be used to investigate physical properties
of plasmas and in molecular-dynamics simulations of fermion plasma. It is further shown that the Bohm
potential including the kinetic corrections has a profound effect on the Thomson scattering cross section
in quantum plasmas with arbitrary degeneracy.
