The polyester fibers were modified by polypyrrole-ZnO (PPy-ZnO) and poly pyrrole-V2O5 (PPy-
V2O5) nanocomposites by soft chemical polymerization at room temperature. The morphology and
structures of the resulting PPy nanocomposites were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy
(SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. Results show that the shape
of the synthesized nanocomposite depended on metal oxide type and the sizes of nanocomposites
were between 50 to 150 nanometers. The provided PPy-ZnO and PPy-V2O5 were used as gas
sensors to detection some gasses like acetone, methanol, ethanol, and toluene. Results show that
PPy-ZnO and PPy-V2O5 sensors have different response pattern to analytes. Theses sensors detect
selectively ethanol and acetone. The detection limit and sensitivity of sensors were different based
on used metal oxide between 100–500 ng. The fabricated sensors have a fast response (15 sec)
and recovery time (40 sec). Relative standard deviations (RSDs) for all gas sample analysis were
determined ≤7%.
