In this work, label-free liquid crystal (LC) based biosensors are applied for the detection of breast cancer biomarkers. Herein, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) is used as one of the common breast cancer biomarkers. Thus, the anti-HER2 antibody was immobilized on the ultraviolet (UV) modified dimethyloctadecyl [3- (trimethoxysilyl)propyl] ammonium chloride (DMOAP) monolayer on the substrate. The binding of the antibody and antigen lead to topology-geomorphologic changes on the slide surface, which enforced LC molecules' orientation transformation, and consequently, adjusted light transmittance. Results showed that UV irradiation increased the binding affinity of the HER2 antibody and also the detection reproducibility
