In this work, a novel magnetic nanocomposite (MNC) based on calcined Ni-Fe layered double hydroxide (NiO-NiFe2O4) was synthesized by hydrothermal method and applied as an effectual adsorbent for magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of zinc ions followed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry detection. The characterization of the synthesized NiONiFe2O4 MNC was performed applying Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, tunneling electron microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. After successful synthesis of NiO-NiFe2O4 MNC and proving its efficiency for extraction of Zn(II) ions, essential factors affecting the extraction recovery were investigated and optimized through one at a time approach. Considering the validation of the MSPE method, the method’s linearity was in the concentration range of 0.3 to 20 ng mL

with a correlation coefficient of 0.9996 and the limit of detection was calculated to be 0.04 ng mL

. The method’s intera-day and inter-day repeatability with six replicates were 1.5 % and 3.5 %, respectively. The accuracy of the developed m ethod was evaluated by the analysis of a certified reference sample. The developed method was applied for determination of Zn(II) ions in drinking water, foods and various industrial wastewater samples, in which, high relative recoveries were resulted.
