In the present research, a comparative and comprehensive investigation is performed on the six different layouts of the supercritical carbon dioxide cycle based on conventional and advanced exergy. The effect of different layouts on the exogenous exergy destruction of each component is also investigated in this study for the first time. Performing the advanced exergy analysis presents different priority suggestions from conventional exergy analysis to the improvement of components of each cycle. It is worth noting that the intercooling cycle has the lowest exergy destruction value among the other layouts. The reducible value of exergy destruction in the intercooling cycle, the pre-compression cycle, the recompression cycle, the dual regenerative cycle, the partial cooling cycle, and the simple regenerative cycle, according to the results of advanced exergy analysis, is 42.20 %, 49.49 %, 38.78 %, 37.77 %, 33.45 %, and 36.88 %, respectively. As a result, the pre-compression cycle offers the most possibility for development. The highest layout’s impact on the exogenous exergy destruction is related to the partial cooling cycle, followed by the recompression and intercooling cycles.
