The water crisis has become a globally challenging issue that severely threatens human development and will continue to escalate in the next few centuries [1]. Discharging the emerged pollutants to water resources besides the freshwater scarcity has become a major global problem. In recent years, membrane-based separation techniques have attracted great attention owing to remarkable advantages such as high-quality water production, superior separation efficiency, no or low need for chemical additives, ease of use on large scales, and cost-effectivity. Nowadays, polymer-based membranes have allocated a major portion of the market. Mechanical and chemical strength, better filmforming ability, special interchange of chemical species, creating required pore sizes for various filtration processes, and using inexpensive material for the production are the main reasons for this popularity [2]. In this study, MoSe2 nanostructure were synthesized by hydrothermal method and used for modification of polyethersulfone (PES) ultrafiltrration (UF) membranes. The MoSe2 nanostructure was used as a nanoadditive with high hydrophilic property to modify the PES membrane. UF membrane with different weight percentages of MoSe2 were prepared by phase inversion method. Pure water flux was measured to check the performance improvement of UF membranes. According to the results, the flux of pure water increases with the addition of MoSe2. Modified membrane with 0.3 wt% MoSe2 had a higher flux recovery ration (FRR) than bare membrane.
