چکیده
Green seeds and foliage of Cupressus arizonica and Salvia officinalis collected, well washed with distilled water then dried in shadow and lab temperature. Extraction carried out by water as solvent using Clevenger apparatus. The essential oil samples formulated as emulsions by tween 20 as emulsifier. Repellent activity of emulsions evaluated against adults of Phthorimaea operculella, Sitophilus granarius L., Tribolium confusum, Ephestia kuehniella, Trogoderma granarium, Oryzaephilus surinamensis, Rhyzopertha dominica and larvae of Hypera posticae. All insects were prepared from department of plant protection insect rearing center. Choice test assays carried out using a rectangle handmade apparatus in 2×11×27 cm dimensions which lids contains two opening (5 cm in diameter) covered with fine mesh for ventilation. 100 μl of 10% emulsions loaded on filter paper and located in one side of apparatus and in other side a same filter paper treated with water and tween 20 used as control. Ten insects released in center of each apparatus and presence of insects around treatment and controls recorded in 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours. Then percent of repellency calculated. The results revealed that S. officinalis emulsion repellent activity against larvae of H. postica was 73.33% followed by 27% repellency against R. dominica and T. granarium adults. Non-repellency activity measured against P. operculella, O. surinamensis and T. confusum with S. officinalis essential oil. About emulsion of C. arizonica, the most and least repellency observed against P. operculella and R. dominica respectively (25 and 4%). The other evaluated insects were not affects by this emulsion.
